AND DOODLE GENERATIONS
Goldendoodles are actually a hybrid of two fantastic breeds: the Golden Retriever and the Standard Poodle.
Golden Retrievers: regarded for their loyal, sweet temperament and their ease of trainability. For this reason they are great family pets and often used as therapy dogs. They are intelligent and easily trained.
Standard Poodles: are ranked the second most intelligent breed. They are also a lively and social. One of the greatest benefits of this breed is their lack of shedding.
Goldendoodles were originally bred as service dogs for people with allergies. Goldendoodles continue to be used as service and therapy dogs since they are highly intelligent, social and easily trained. However, they have also become a great choice for first-time dog owners and families. Their gentle, friendly, playful and affectionate nature make them ideal for families with children. They are also considered non to low shedding, making them a great option for people with allergies. Goldendoodles can come in a variety of colours and patterns and have 4 main coat types: Straight (can be very straight and puffy or shaggy), wavy, curly or flat. To learn more about Goldendoodle coat types and colours, click here. Please note the difference between straight and flat coats; we do not breed flat coats.
Not only do we genetically test our dogs for congenital diseases, we also test their coat genetics. We carefully select our breeding pairs based on their coat colours, patterns, furnishings and coat type (curl, straight, wavy).
A little bit more about Goldendoodle Generations:
An F1 Goldendoodle is a Golden Retriever X Poodle (50% Golden & 50% Poodle). F1s are generally low to non-shedders. They typically have straight or loose wave coats. They can be many colours (except chocolate or parti).
An F1B Goldendoodle is a F1 Goldendoodle X Poodle (approx. 25% Golden & 75% Poodle). The exact percentages of Golden and Poodle characteristics does vary from dog-to-dog. These dogs generally have more "hypo-allergenic" qualities and usually do not shed (not guaranteed). F1bs will have wavy or curly coats and can be many different colours including chocolate and parti.
An F2 Goldendoodle is any first generation Goldendoodle (F1, F1B, F1bb) X Any Generation Goldendoodle. Essentially, ONE or more of the parents is an F1 Goldendoodle. There are MANY types of F2s.
F2 from F1 X F1- We do not breed F1 Goldendoodle X F1 Goldendoodle since this can result in a "flat coat" which is essentially a Goldendoodle without "furnishings" (longer facial hair, including eyebrows, mustache and beard). Golden Retrievers lack furnishings and have an "open face" but in goldendoodles this is considered to be an "improper coat." Dogs with furnishings are typically lower shedders than dogs without furnishings.
F2 from F1 X F1B- We breed this pairing if the parents have been tested to carry the "furnishings" gene. This generation will have variety in their coat colours, and types (curly, wavy, straight) but will typically have more Golden Retriever features.
F2 from F1B X F1B- We breed this pairing if the parents have been tested to carry the "furnishings" gene. This generation will have more variety in their coat colours, and types (curly, wavy, straight) but will typically be wavier or curly since both parents have more poodle traits.
F2 from F1BB X F1B- We breed this pairing if the parents have been tested to carry the "furnishings" gene. This generation will have more variety in their coat colours, and types but will typically be wavier or curly since both parents have more poodle traits.
There are many more parent pairings for F2 Generation.
An F3 Generation is a Goldendoodle an F2 parent bred to an F2, F3 or multigen.
Multigen Goldendoodle is an F3 Generation bred to an F3 generation (or higher) or poodle. There are many variations in colours and coat types in multigens as it will depend on the genetics of each parent.
What does the B mean?
The B is used when a Goldendoodle is "back-bred" to the original breed (in most cases this is the poodle). Any Generation will get a B if a Goldendoolde is bred to a pure-bred poodle. (e.g. F1 X poodle = F1B, F2 X poodle = F2B, F3 X poodle = F3B).
